That’s a Wrap

Wow, wow, wow. What a year it’s been. From keeping warm round the fire pit in early January and Patsy’s warm up drill running across the fields, to the heat of the desert in Morocco in November. We have been lucky enough to see 100s of riders come through the Academy this year, we have become a BikeShed accredited partner, we have attended Camp VC for the first time, the Malle Mile and BikeShed show, we have spent the weekend at the ABR festival, taken groups of riders through trails in the western Algarve, we have hosted the Met Police BikeSafe Team, the Kent Fire and Rescue Service Biker Down Team, the Malle Marshals and we have helped the BSMC Rallye Team realise their dream and take part in their first rallye, over in Greece. We have partnered with the team at Sinnis to create an off road training school for learner and newer riders. We have seen riders attend our courses from ROSPA and IAM advanced rider groups as well as corporate days out for different companies.
We can’t wait for 2023 and already have a packed calendar. Our colleagues in Desert Rose Racing start the year with The Real Way to Dakar which kicks off in late January, they then have some 15 other rallies and raids they are supporting through the year. At the Academy we start the year with our new maintenance workshop and then in late January our Stage 1, & 2 courses begin, with Skills Development days also on the calendar. We will be back at the BikeShed in January, talking about the next event for their rallye team and February sees us back in Portugal. We plan to be back at our favourite events through the year and look forward to new adventures. We are looking forward to seeing you all again and hope to welcome new riders to the Desert Rose Dirt Club.

Portugal Trails Never Fail to Deliver

Our 2026 Portugal Trail Riding trip did not disappoint. The south western Algarve had had some pretty wet weather in the 6 weeks prior to us arriving so the streams we have crossed in previous years had become rivers. Some days we adapted our planned routes to avoid the deeper rivers. The hills around Monchique gave us plenty of varied terrain, but this year to add in a little more adventure, we took 2 of the groups out to a little town on the Spanish border. The overnight stay in Mertola was a great addition to the schedule and we will certainly include something similar on future trips.
